QUASAR: the second XDC software release is out

The eXtreme-DataCloud project is pleased to announce the general availability of its second public software release, codenamed Quasar. The release notes can be found here. The eXtreme-DataCloud objective is to develop scalable technologies for federating storage resources and managing data in highly distributed computing environments, and all the changes introduced were driven by this. XDC-2 (codename Quasar) is the second step towards a set of stable components, integrated services and tools, pillars of the eXtreme-DataCloud framework. This release builds on the foundations laid by XDC-1 to provide new features and enhancements for many of its software components and services, as well as important new services: Improved CachingOnDemand service with support […]

XDC @ Supercomputing 2019

XDC, in collaboration with DEEP and EOSC-hub projects, is present at The International Conference for High Performance Computing Networking, Storage, and Analysis 2019 (Supercomputing 2019) with a poster describing the common usecase and the cloud oriented services developed to make them available to the scientific communities.

Paving the path towards the implementation of the EOSC ecosystem

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) aims to be the Europe’s virtual environment for all researchers to store, manage, analyse and re-use data for research, innovation and educational purposes. INDIGO-DataCloud (INDIGO) and its two follow-up projects, Deep-HybridDataCloud (DEEP) and eXtreme-DataCloud (XDC) are considered to be part of the key contributors to the actual implementation of EOSC. Funded by the EC, the projects are aimed at developing cloud-oriented scalable technologies capable of operating at the unprecedented scale as required by the most demanding, data intensive, research experiments in Europe and Worldwide. Thanks to the service components developed by INDIGO, researchers in Europe are now using public and private cloud resources to […]

PULSAR: the first XDC software release is out

The eXtreme-DataCloud project is pleased to announce the general availability of its first public software release, codenamed Pulsar. The release notes can be found here. This release comes after an initial phase of requirement gathering which involved several European scientific collaborations in areas as diverse as life sciences, astrophysics, high-energy physics, photon science and clinical research. This resulted in the development of new or improved functionalities of a set of software components, some of them already available in the European Open Science Cloud ecosystem, addressing important topics like federation of storage resources, smart caching solutions, policy driven data management based on Quality of Service, data lifecycle management, metadata handling and […]

XDC @ Supercomputing 2018

XDC, in collaboration with DEEP and EOSC-hub projects, is present at The International Conference for High Performance Computing Networking, Storage, and Analysis 2018 (Supercomputing 2018) in Dallas (TX) with a poster describing the activities and the interactions among the projects aimed at making available cloud oriented services to the communities of the EOSC.

Joint XDC-DEEP Kick-off Meeting

The joint eXtreme-DataCloud (XDC) and the DEEP-HybridDataCloud kickoff meeting, hosted by INFN, will take place in Bologna (Italy) on 23-25 January, 2018 at the CNR Conference Center located in via Gobetti 101, Bologna. This kick-off meeting will be the first opportunity for the two projects communities to meet and start planning their activities for the coming years. The programme features a plenary session on January 24th morning to present the two initiatives to a wider public, including user communities not directly involved and e-infrastructure providers interested in the projects outcomes. Check the agenda of the meeting here.
